Poem-3 Rain on the Roof by -Coates Kinney        A Brief Note On  Poet Coates Kinney (November 24, 1826 - January 25, 1904) was an American poet, lawyer, politician and journalist. He is considered a wistful and skillful poet of the nineteenth century. His verses were collected in Keeuka and Other Poems and Lyrics of the Ideal and the Real. One of his most famous poems, "The Rain on the Roof' is said to have established Coates Kinney as a popular poet. A Brief Summary of the Poem The present poem describes a scene of nature and the effects it has on human mind. The poem opens with dark clouds hovering all over the sky. A gloomy darkness spreads all around. When it starts to rain, the poet compares the rain drops to the tears shed by the darkness. However, the poet finds it blissful to lie in his cozy bed and listen to the patter of the rain falling on the roof.
