Poem -4 The Lake Isle of Innisfree -William Butler Yeats Literary Notes of the Poet William Butler Yeats (13 June, 1865-28 January, 1939) was an Irish poet and one of the key figures of 20 century literature. He was a symbolist poet, using allusive imagery and symbolic structures. He chose words that suggested abstract thoughts. Yeats also wrote the preface for the English translation of Rabindranath Tagore's 'Gitanjali' in 1913. The Green Helmet (1910), Responsibilities (1914), "The Tower" (1928), "The Winding Stair (1933), and New Poems (1938) are some of his notable works.
