Questions and answers
Q1. Why was the twentieth century called the 'Era of the Books'?
Ans. There were books for everything, from anteaters to Zulus. Books taught people what to do, how to do, when to do and why to do. They explained, educated, directed and decorated. This is why the twentieth century was known as the 'Era of the Books.'
Q2. Who tried to invade the earth in the twenty- first century?
Ans. The Martians tried to invade the earth in the twenty-first century.
Q3. What guesses are made by Think-Tank about the books found on earth?
Ans. Think-Tank first guesses them to be sandwiches. Then he calls them communication devices. After that he thinks them to be some kind of communication devices for the eyes that have to be watched.
Q4. Noodle avoids offending Think-Tank but at the same time he corrects his mistake. How does he manage to do that?
Ans. Noodle avoids offending Think-Tank while correcting his mistakes by presenting his own thoughts, but referring to them as being of no particular importance. Whenever he has to say something contrary to what Think-Tank said, he
does this. In this way he corrects Think-Tank's errors without making Think-Tank feel that he is being corrected.
5. If you were in Noodle's place, how would you handle Think-Tank's mistakes?
Ans. If I were in Noddle's place, I too would do what he did. I would politely and gently suggest the corrections.
Q6. Do you think books are being replaced by the electronic media? Can we do away with books altogether?
Ans. Yes, these days online reading has replaced traditional books to a large extent. Internet, Facebook, Twitter, etc. have decreased interest in reading. But, the truth is that books cannot be totally replaced. Books can never go out of life although they may exist in a different form.
Q 7. Why are books referred to as a man's best companion? Which is your favourite book and first why? Write a paragraph about that book.
Ans. A book is our best companion because it always keeps us company, especially when we are alone. Books are the friends with whom we can escape the reality. They take us on journeys far and wide without physically going anywhere. Books guide us, instruct us, make us laugh, inform us, inspire us, fuel our imagination and our fantasies and are always true to us. My favourite book is Heidi written by Johanna Spyri. It is the story of a little orphan girl called Heidi.
Heidi, goes to live high in the Swiss Alps with her gruff grandfather and brings happiness to all who know her on the mountain. When Heidi goes to Frankfurt to work in a wealthy household, she dreams of returning to the mountains and meadows, her friend Peter and her beloved grandfather. The story of Heidi may have been written in 1880, but the story ultimate messages of optimism, selflessness, kindness and love for nature continues to attract new readers from around the globe
Q8. Why did Sergeant Oop take bite of book?
Ans.Sgt. Oop took a bite of the book because it was an order from Think-Tank who believed that the book was actually a sandwich consumed by the humans on a regular basis. He ordered the space crew members to eat the book to confirm his opinion.
Q9. What is Think Thank opinion about the planet Earth and it's inhabitants ?
Ans.Think-Tank calls Martians a handsome race. According to Think-Tank, Martians were more attractive than the 'ugly' Earthlings with their tiny head. Think-Tank mockingly calls Earth as 'ridiculous little planet', 'an insignificant place', 'a primitive ball of mud.'
Q10. How were the Martians able to read the book on planet even though they didn't know any language spoken by earthlings?
Ans. Since the Martians did not know any of the languages spoken on Earth, they were provided with special vitamins to increase their intelligence. As soon as they took the vitamins, the books became legible to them. This is how the Martians were able to read the book.
Q11. What guesses are made by Think Thank about the books found on the earth?
Ans.The first guess made by Think-Tank about the books found on Earth is that they are sandwiches meant to be eaten. Next, he says that the books are communication sandwiches, which the humans listen to and not eat. At last, Think-Tank says the communication sandwiches (the books) are not meant for ears but for eyes.
Q12.Describe Noodle in short in your own words.
Ans. Noodle was a Martian who was still serving his apprenticeship under the Mighty Think-Tank, the Commander- in-Chief of Mars. Noodle was courteous and respectful towards Think-Tank, but at the same time he was tactful and diplomatic. He kept correcting Think-Tank, but also made sure that he did so without offending the latter. Noodle would often give indirect suggestions to Think-Tank whenever the latter was wrong by presenting his own correct opinions as insignificant.
Q13. What saved the earth?
Ans. One dusty old book of Nursery rhymes saved the earth from a Martians invasion. The Martians could not understand the meaning of nursery books rhyme. They began to believe that earthlings are advance in technology and called of their invasion.
