However, her daughter remembered the place where she used to live with her mother Long after the war, she came to the town where she used to live with her mother. She went to meet the woman with whom her mother had left all her things. But the woman refused to recognize her because she didn't want to return the things she had taken. In the story, the daughter describes how she felt during the visit and later on the second visit

Message

The Address by Marga Minco revolves around the theme of crisis that we, as an individual encounter in our daily life. War brings destruction, pain, and loss of lives which impact humans in various ways. However, this story speaks about the narrator and mother's life how they are disrupted due to war.

Marga Minco's short story 'The Address' discusses the pain and sufferings brought by war to the individuals and the challenges they had to face in order to bring resolutions to the situation of crisis.

Mrs Dorling was very cunning and clever lady.She was selfish, greedy and money minded lady.She was very insolent and rude lady.She had kept all belonging of narrator's mother and refused to recognise narrator.

How did Mrs Dorling react when the narrator said, I'm Mrs S’s daughter”?

Answer: Mrs Dorling behaved insolently.She pretended that she didn't know narrator or her mother.

Mrs Dorling held her hand on the door as if she wanted to prevent it opening any

further. Her face showed no sign of recognition. She kept staring at the narrator without uttering a word.

Why did the narrator feel that she had come to a wrong address?

Answer: When the narrator arrived at Marconi street,Mrs Dorling behaved in an indifferent way.

She thought that perhaps the woman was not Mrs Dorling. She had seen her only once, for a brief interval and that too years ago. Secondly, it was probable that she had rung the wrong bell.

Question 3:

How did the narrator conclude that she was right?

Answer: The woman was wearing the green knitted cardigan of the narrator’s mother. The wooden buttons were rather pale from washing. She saw that the narrator was looking at the cardigan. She half hid herself again behind the door. Her reaction convinced the narrator that she was right.

Question 4: How did the narrator feel when she saw the things in Mrs dorling house?

Ans. When the narrator was sitting in Mrs Dorling's living room, she felt as if she was in a place she knew and didn't know. She saw the tea pot  with golden border, the cutlery box, antique plates and the silver. All these things made narrators nostalgic. She felt that those things had lost their value because of the loss of of mother.

Answer:

The narrator’s mother had given her the address, years ago during the first half of

the war. The narrator came home for a few days and missed various things in the rooms. Then her mother told her about Mrs Dorling and gave her the address.

Answer:

Mrs Dorling was an old acquaintance of the narrator’s mother. Mrs Dorling had not seen her for several years. Then she suddenly turned up and renewed their contact.

Answer:

Mrs Dorling was a woman with a broad back. She wore a brown coat and a shapeless hat. She picked up a heavy suitcase lying under the coat rack and left their house.

The post war is filled with grief and painful memories.Narrator came back to her hometown to collect her belongings but she is disappointed when she encounter Mrs Dorling.Now she lives in a small rented house.Common people have always suffered death and destruction.
