Definition 

A Conjunction is a part of speech that connects two words, clauses, or sentences, or shows relation between sentences. Or it is a joiner word.

For eg 

*I went home and took my books.

*He did not come because he was ill.

*Three and three make six

Kinds of Conjunctions-


1. Coordinating Conjunctions

Definition 

Coordinative Conjunctions are those conjunctions that join words, phrases or clauses of equal rank. Keep in mind (FANBOYS) for and not but or yet so

For eg.

1-Umang and Utkarsh went to the park.

2-I did go there but I did not talk to John.


2. Subordinating Conjunctions

Conjunctions that connect subordinate clauses to the main clause are called subordinating conjunctions.( After, although,as if, because, before, while, where ,so that ,since, till ,unless, until, wh.)

For eg 

1-The thief was caught red-handed while he was stealing a jewellery box.

2-I love her works because She uses color.


3. Correlative Conjunctions

Correlative conjunctions occur in pairs such as no sooner... than, neither...nor, so... that, not only... but also, both…. and etc. 


1-He is so weak that he cannot walk.

2-She is not only beautiful but also intelligent.
