Ans. The Duck herself could not hop. She was confined to lead a boring life in the nasty pond. Hence, she was fascinated by the Kangaroo's continuous hopping over the fields and water.

Ans. The Duck called the pond nasty because it was dull and boring. She couldn't hop like the Kangaroo and her movement was restricted to the pond's boundary. The pond offered no thrill to the Duck and made her life uninteresting and monotonous

Ans. The Duck lived in an unpleasant pond which she found to be boring and dull. It made her life monotonous and uninteresting as she was confined to the pond's boundary. Therefore, she had a deep desire to hop like the Kangaroo and visit distant places

Ans. The pond offered no thrill to the Duck who would spend day and night in the pond. She wanted to visit distant lands and had observed the Kangaroo hopping around all day long. So, she wanted to take a ride on the Kangaroo's back and see exciting places.

Ans. The first stanza shows the Duck's desire to hop like a Kangaroo and see the world beyond the pond. She admires the Kangaroo's hopping skills and wishes to hop like the Kangaroo. The stanza reveals that the Duck wants to be adventurous and has feelings similar to human beings as she is bored with her dull lifestyle.

Ans. The mentioned line reveals that the Duck is very co-operative and considerate. She would not cause inconvenience to others. She knows that the Kangaroo might be distracted if she makes noise so she offers to be quiet and still.


Q9. Was the trip beneficial to the Duck and the Kangaroo? How?

Ans. The trip provided immense pleasure to both the Duck and the Kangaroo. They hopped around the world three times. They enjoyed each other's company and were happy beyond measure. Thus, the trip was beneficial to both of them.

Ans. Besides being adventurous, the Duck is cooperative, considerate, far-sighted and thoughtful. She readily agrees to sit still on the Kangaroo's back without distracting him as she wouldn't want to cause him any inconvenience. She considers the Kangaroo's objection and anticipates the hurdles in the journey. She is also clever because she convinces the Kangaroo to take her on a ride.

Ans. The title of the poem, consisting of names of two creatures, gives the impression that the poem clearly revolves around them. The story of the Duck and the Kangaroo is narrated through conversation between them. Hence, the title 'The Duck and the Kangaroo' is apt.

Ans. The poem revolves around the themes of adventure and cooperation. A dull lifestyle makes life uninteresting and monotonous. Therefore, adventure is needed to make life interesting. The poem also has the theme of comradeship between friends who help bring happiness in each other's lives.
