Theme

The message that the poet wants to convey is that not all snakes are harmful. Humans have this belief that all snakes are dangerous. Also, humans have this tendency to rush to kill a snake as soon as they spot one. The author tries to tell us that such thinking is not good and is harmful to the snake.


Message 

The poem conveys the message that all creatures of nature are important for maintaining the ecological balance. Even snakes that are generally regarded as ugly and dangerous should not be killed. All animals need to be treated in a kind and sympathetic manner. Snakes only attack when they sense danger to their life. Not all varieties of snakes are dangerous, so they should be left alone.

Ans. The snake is not harmful. It is of green colour.

Ans. The snake was lying comfortably on the sands on the bank of a pond. Suddenly, he notices a person trying to hit him with a stick. He curves his body to avoid being stuck by the stick the man is carrying.

Ans. The snake twists and turns his body to avoid being hit by the pursuing stick. When he does that the poet finds him very beautiful and graceful.

Ans. The snake starts moving towards the pond to escape being hit. He curves his slender body and slides away through the water among the green reeds. There, he can easily hide himself and avoid being noticed.

Ans. No, the poet does not approve of the person who intends to hit the snake with his stick. He does not find any reason why a person should kill a harmless, non poisonous, beautiful and graceful snake. He wants the snake to be left alone.

Ans. The poet requests the person chasing the snake with a stick to spare the snake's life. He wants the person to let the snake slide away through the water among the reeds where he may camouflage and protect himself from predators.

Ans. The poet wants the snake to be spared because, being non-poisonous, he is not dangerous to anyone. He is so harmless that he cannot harm even a young child. It is not a threat to any human.

Ans. The snake hides himself among the green reeds growing on the other side of the pond. He merges his thin and green body with the background of the slim and green reeds. This disguise helps him escape the person who is trying to kill him.

Ans. The poet has a caring and sensitive attitude towards all living beings. He understands the fact that the diversity of the creatures should be preserved to maintain the ecological balance. Moreover, he believes that wild creatures, if they are non- poisonous, should be left alone.

Ans. The snake described in the poem is small and of green colour. He glides in a graceful and beautiful manner. The harmless, graceful and beautiful snake fascinates the poet.
